Neck pain is often due to injuries or degeneration of one or more of the cervical spinal discs, joints, or muscles in your neck.
Most pain that persist beyond 1-2 weeks are likely not to be due to muscle strain.
Muscle tightness or spasm is usually a symptom of something more serious going on in the spine. Both disc herniations and facet joint arthritis can cause muscle spasm or tightness. After the physical exam, Dr. Aram orders diagnostic tests such as X-rays, a CT scan, or an MRI so she can view the internal structures of your neck and confirm the cause of your pain. Diagnostic imaging also helps Dr. Aram determine the extent of any damage or degeneration, and whether the problem is affecting any other tissues.

Dr. Aram begins by using conservative treatments such as Anti-inflammatory medications, ice/heat, and physical therapy.
